Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that is manifested by redness and thickening of the skin, which is covered with white, dry and soft shells. It mostly occurs on the elbows, hair and body, knees. It can infect other parts of the body, especially the nails. In psoriasis skin appears transformation for several days and the resulting flakes appear. While in normal conditions of the skin and it takes about one month to reach the cells normal layer. Psoriasis is a chronic disease that lasts until the end of your life and that can be regulate with treatment. It does not affect your health until neglected and did not appear again in the later period.
Psoriasis can occur at any time of life and occurs most frequently in people with pale skin. It is a relatively common disease that occurs in 3 percent of the population. Injuries such as cuts, burns, insect bites and rashes just worse the situation of the disease and is also dangerous for people with weak immunity. Bacterial and viral infections, some medications, exaggerating the consumption of alcohol, organic disorders, reduced intake of vitamins and external damaging factors are a factor for deteriorating condition of the disease. The disease is contagious and in many case is transmitting from one another by contact. It takes weeks and months and then withdrawn. In a small percentage it is associate with arthritis.
Symptoms of psoriasis are:
- thickened skin, raised skin called plaques
- dry and soft shells,
- scale, whitish -silver coat
- redness in different shape and size,
- small red plaques, forming one bigger plaque
In case it appears on nails it looks like stationary recesses on the surface. If it appears on the joints, then they are swollen and numb.
Psoriasis can be treated with systemic and topical therapies. Systematically is treating with retinoid, cyclosporine, in photo chemotherapy and methotrexate. Locally treated by coating the skin with 5 percent salicylic acid in white petrolatum body or olive oil for hair in order to remove the skins from the infected areas. Afterwards applying topically tar, corticosteroid, phototherapy, vitamin D3 derivatives and naphthalene. Well-balanced diet, intake of more fluids, sunbathing and avoiding stress positively affect the fight against psoriasis. From time to time we need to do detoxification of the body, cleansing the blood, bile and liver. In case comes to respiratory system infection, you should treat it immediately. It is recommended that you take daily and regular baths and showers and maintain regular hygiene of the skin.
